Happy Easter everyone! I’m happy that my painting “Machismo” was chosen by Singulart’s curators to be included in the New Masculinity collection. My thoughts while making “Machismo” were about how different cultures in the world define masculinity. For example, many men have been taught to always stay strong and not show a lot of emotions. For me, modern masculinity is the opposite. I think it is slowly changing around the globe. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “machismo” is defined as “male behavior that is strong and forceful and demonstrates very traditional ideas about how men and women should behave.” The name on the artwork is meant to be kind of ironic, and I wanted to show a more up-to-date picture of today’s modern man. As a result, I desired to use colors, which are not typically associated with masculinity but are more acceptable for men nowadays. In Norway, I think it is more OK than ever for a man to be in touch with his own feelings. It has been more spoken about in the media about the high suicide rate for young men in Norway lately and how important it is to take care of your mental health.
You’ll also find my artworks in Singulart’s various collections. “Machismo” is also included in the Pantone Color of the Year 2022 – Very Peri collection, as well as “Slipping into Eternity” in Our Best Abstract Paintings.
